Melanie Colclough, MPA

Senior Program Officer, Human Services & Arts and Culture


Melanie Colclough serves as the senior program officer for human services and arts & culture, with a primary focus on aiding the most vulnerable residents in our service area by ensuring access to basic needs, such as healthy food options. She also strengthens the capacity and funding for organizations and agencies providing safety nets and social services through responsive grantmaking. Additionally, Melanie collaborates with various organizations to offer artistic and cultural experiences in communities and schools.

She has over two decades of experience as a leader in the nonprofit and public sectors. Prior to joining the foundation, Melanie served as the executive director of the SC Arts Alliance, a nonprofit organization tasked with advocating for the success, expansion, and vitality of the creative industry. She is a graduate of Duke University’s Nonprofit Management Program, was appointed a grant reviewer for the National Endowment of the Arts and earned a seat in the inaugural cohort of South Arts’ Emerging Leaders of Color.

Melanie’s recognition includes the Tribute to Women in Industry Award from the YWCA of the Upper Lowlands, Women of Excellence Award from the Social Justice Consortium, and the SCPRSA Silver Wing Award of Excellence. Melanie also orchestrated a city, county, and business collaboration which earned an Inspiration Award for Outstanding Partnerships from the Municipal Association of South Carolina.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Public Administration degree from the City University of New York through the National Urban Fellows, a public and nonprofit leadership fellowship.

She has a passion for community building and foster/adoption advocacy and was an avid volunteer in those spaces. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and active in the church. She is married to her childhood friend, David, and they share six beautiful children.
